Online self-paced learning is hard for people who struggle with focus
Taking online self-paced courses can be daunting. My personal experience studying as a distance learner at UPOU (University of the Philippines Open University) highlighted how difficult independent study becomes when struggling to maintain focus.
The major bottleneck is tool-switching friction: constantly alt-tabbing between static 30-page PDFs, separate note apps, timer widgets, external AI tools, and video players.
This constant context switching shatters focus, increases cognitive load, and turns what should be an engaging lesson into passive, exhausting reading.
One unified platform making lessons easily digestible and interactive
The ultimate goal of Launchpad is to serve as an all-in-one platform that turns any static course module into a digestible, highly interactive learning experience.
By combining prefrontal cortex breathing focus timers, bite-sized page-by-page progress, live saved workbooks, video lesson plans, and real-time AI guidance (Luca AI Tutor), studying becomes seamless and engaging.
Designing the Launchpad Learning Dashboard
To eliminate context switching and keep independent learners grounded, Launchpad unifies course management, digestible card lectures, in-context workbooks, and AI tutoring into a single cohesive UI environment.
1. Dual-Panel Interactive Player Workspace
The player is split into two primary zones: the Left Lecture & Workbook Canvas for reading, video, and active reflection entries, and the Right Luca AI Drawer for instant, on-demand assistance without ever navigating away from your study progress.
Displays module progress, page indicator, and window controls cleanly to preserve maximum vertical reading space.
Minimizes to a slim tab when you need deep focus, or expands in 1 click when you need instant concept explanations.
2. Digestible Lesson Chunking & Multi-Media
Instead of overwhelming learners with endless scrolling PDFs, Launchpad breaks content down into single-concept cards. Each page presents one clear learning objective, short video clips, or reflection exercise—making long courses feel manageable and rewarding.
3. In-Context Persistent Workbook & Frameworks
Passive reading leads to low retention. Launchpad embeds active reflection tools—such as the Fix-It Flip, 4-Lens Brainstormer, and Decision Filter Checklist—directly into the lesson pages. Student responses save instantly to memory, creating a complete personal workbook by the end of each module.
